If you do, expect to walk AT LEAST four miles a day. And most of the time, it’s more. A LOT more!

When car shoppers are seeking the car of their dreams, they typically want to test drive multiple cars. And for OffLeaseOnly sales associates, that means walking, and lots of it.

Recently, a few OffLeaseOnly sales associates began tracking their steps with Apps for their iPhones and Smart phones. The results were impressive!

“It’s not for the faint of heart,” chuckled OffLeaseOnly Palm Beach sales associate Robert Palermo, who sold 3.5 cars and walked an incredible 10.45 miles on a recent and very busy Saturday. “With this job, you continually walk. It’s a lot of fun.”

Sales associates at the Palm Beach store at 3531 Lake Worth Road walk so much because many of the used cars for sale are parked on an overflow lot just north of the main car lot. If a customer wants to see a used car that is parked in the overflow lot, a sales associate has to run to the back lot, move several vehicles to access the car, then bring it to the front.

It’s a third mile out-and-back, so 1.5 trips to-and-from add up to a mile.

“It involves getting a lot of cars. Anytime you have to get a car from the back, you have to run around. A lot,” Palermo said. “Plus there are only two or three porters in the back so if it’s busy you have to move cars yourself. You may have to move three to five cars.”

On a busy Saturday, it’s not uncommon for a sales associate to arrange as many as three test drives for individual customers searching for their dream ride. “They walk a lot,” conceded OffLeaseOnly Palm Beach sales manager Donny Raso. “That’s why we wear shorts and sneakers. In this business, if you snooze, you lose.”

So, is the unofficial OffLeaseOnly Fitness program like being at the gym?

“Exactly,” Raso said. “On a busy Saturday, OffLeaseOnly could have 200 customers which might result in 100 people doing up to 200 test drives. They probably walk about 10 miles on a busy day because there are three lots they have to pull cars from.”

A typical week for Palermo logged the following during a recent 6-day stint: 6 miles, 9 miles, 8 miles, 5 miles, 4 miles, 5 miles.

“We hustle here,” said OffLeaseOnly Palm Beach sales associate Juan Palacios. “We have a 3,000-car inventory and only 400 of those cars are on this front lot. The other 600 are on other lots and the other 2,000 are at our other locations.”

According to OffLeaseOnly Palm Beach sales associate Russell Cosolito’s phone App, Cosolito walked 200 miles since January 2015 to July 1st and he never left OffLeaseOnly property.

“It’s crazy. I know there are times when I am doing a tremendous amount of miles in a day. That’s just what we have to do to locate cars for our customers,” Cosolito said. “There are days we are doing eight to 10 miles and others we are doing three miles. “

A traditional car dealership typically parks all models close to the dealership showroom. If a customer wants to see a vehicle with a different trim package, the salesperson usually hops into a car and drives out to get the vehicle.

Not so at OffLeaseOnly. OffLeaseOnly sales personnel have to search the inventory for just the right match.

“The cars here are all like fingerprints. No two are alike,” Cosolito said. “At a regular dealership, you could have 50 cars that are exactly the same.”
