OffLeaseOnly Breaks Ground for Magnificent New Palm Beach Store
PALM SPRINGS – Dust clouds billowed in the sweltering heat as rumbling bulldozers began clearing ground for OffLeaseOnly Palm Beach’s much-anticipated new home at 1200 South Congress Avenue.
OffLeaseOnly obtained its construction permit on July 21st and work began immediately. Work is underway to clear the way for temporary roads, said project superintendent Joe Filkowski of the Clermont-based Schmid Construction.
The long-awaited 42,152-square-foot new dealership at 1200 S. Congress Avenue will be situated on a 14.23-acre parcel on the east side of South Congress Avenue.
“It will be beautiful and unique,” Filkowski said. “We are mobilizing right now, bringing in equipment. We’ve put up the security fence. This is really going to juice up the area.”
The project includes a two-story, 21,592-square-foot office building adjacent to a 17,000-square-foot vehicle maintenance garage. The site plan includes a 2,000-square-foot restaurant and 6,000-square feet of retail space.
“This is going to be a property that will be built for the future growth of OffLeaseOnly. It will take us to the next level,” said OffLeaseOnly Chief Operating Officer John Giasullo. “This should allow us to handle customers more efficiently.
“This is an incredibly big deal. For the Village of Palm Springs, for OffLeaseOnly and for any customers within driving distance,” Giasullo added.
The project is expected to be completed in 12 to 13 months, said Ryan Little, OffLeaseOnly operations and project manager.
“I think the most exciting thing is to finally break ground after all the administrative work and planning,” Little said. “There are a lot of people who have been waiting four-plus years for this project.”
The no-frills used car business, known for its rock bottom prices and haggle-free sales, is owned by Mark and Eileen Fischer. Construction of the sprawling new dealership is a tribute to success of this family-owned company, which dates back to 1992 when the Fischers bought their first two cars with their life savings in New York.
The Fischers moved their growing business to South Florida in 1997 and sold used cars from a small, leased warehouse in Lantana until they opened their current car lot at 3531 Lake Worth Road in 2004.
Today OffLeaseOnly consistently captures more than 50 percent of the Palm Beach County used car market every month while out of state sales continue to skyrocket like never before! The used car giant also operates stores in Miami and Orlando.
OffLeaseOnly Palm Beach has outgrown its existing facility at 3531 Lake Worth Road and is bursting at the seams. OffLeaseOnly currently uses a nearby overflow lot to store the abundant selection of used cars for sale that Off Lease Only is known to provide customers.
The new South Congress Avenue store will be home to new inventory along with the company’s corporate headquarters, which are currently located off premise. OffLeaseOnly Palm Beach houses its Out of State Department and reception area for trades at its Value Lot at 1575 S. Military Trail.
According to Little, the Value Lot operations will remain at 1575 S. Military Trail after the 1200 S. Congress Avenue site opens for business. The site will continue serving as a receiving area for new inventory and trades.
The new Palm Beach store’s plans are exceptional. When completed, retail businesses and a restaurant will front on Congress Avenue. A paved courtyard with a fountain and outdoor seating for 50 will separate the two entities. OffLeaseOnly will serve as landlord for the restaurant and retail tenants.
Giasullo said retail was included in the site plan to make the project more community-minded. The Congress Corridor where the dealership is being built is key to the economic redevelopment of Palm Springs. Giasullo predicts that any retail business that opens near OffLeaseOnly will be successful as a result of overflow traffic.
“With the draw we have, whether you sell ice cream, sandwiches or stamps, you will be successful. Any business should become instantly viable,” Giasullo said. “Palm Springs wants to improve the Congress Corridor and this is the first step.”
