PALM SPRINGS – In the spirit of giving, used car dealer Off Lease Only is sponsoring the Palm Springs Police Department’s holiday charity toy drive and encouraging other local businesses to do the same.

Dubbed “Stuff a Cruiser,” the Saturday event at Palm Springs Plaza will feature raffles, food trucks, demonstrations by the Florida Highway Patrol Rollover simulator, bounce houses, a dunk tank, face painting, a craft table, food trucks and of course, Santa Claus.

“Christmas is all about giving and we want to help out,” said Off Lease Only owner Mark Fischer, whose family-run used car business was ranked the No. 5 independent used car dealer in the nation. “The ‘Stuff the Cruiser’ charity toy drive is the reason for the season — giving to others.”

The toy drive is from noon to 4 p.m.  Saturday on the southwest corner of 10th Avenue North and South Congress Avenue.

OffLeaseOnly will be there showing off some cool cars, including a Mercedes, an Acura and a few others. The event’s goal is to promote a sense of community. Having local businesses attend and participate is all part of the intent, said Palm Springs Officer Frank Castro.

OffLeaseOnly owners Mark and Eileen Fischer are strong believers in community involvement and regularly support local charities that provide much-needed services to area residents in need. In the past year, the Fischers have sponsored car giveaways to two deserving families, contributed thousands to kids with cancer, sponsored Father’s Day fishing trips and funded local softball teams.

“Being involved in your own community and actively helping out is what it’s all about,” Mark Fischer said. “We hope no child goes without a toy during the holidays. Everybody needs to dig into their pockets and help out.”

To make sure the holidays are happy for every child, the Palm Springs Police Department will be collecting new, unwrapped toys all afternoon. The toys will be “stuffed” into a police cruiser during the event. The goal is to completely fill the cruiser with donated toys, Castro said.

Photos with Santa are free with a $5 donation or a new toy for the toy drive.

“We are trying to get the community involved,” Castro said. The event also gives kids a chance to interact with local law enforcement in a non-confrontational situation and provides a networking opportunity for local, participating businesses.

The Palm Springs Police Department is partnering with Adopt-A-Family of the Palm Beaches to distribute the toys and money that are collected.

Adopt-A-Family is a Lake Worth-based not-for-profit agency whose purpose is to help families in crisis by providing access to all-encompassing services.  The organization, founded in 1983, believes a family’s basic needs must be met before change can occur within the family or individual. The organization provides housing, rent assistance and support services to needy families.
